new york adventure account #1

LIFE UPDATE: i'm in new york now. my apartment is awesome (well, it will be when they are done renovating the kitchen), and my store opening starts next week, so no more bouncing around all over manhattan. i'm mildly homesick, but things have definitely been worse. oh, and it's cold. also, i've been eating out alone some, which is weird (ian: check your phone more often).

anyway, today i decided to venture over to CB i hate perfume, which is a couple of blocks from my apartment. i love perfume, and i am constantly searching for a signature scent. that sounds terribly cheesy but this is a real quest that i have been on for years.

i knew of the company, but i didn't know much about it. what i found out: the company is the project of christopher brosius, formerly of demeter (although he refuses to speak about his time with the company--mystery!) and creator of their award-winning fragrances "dirt" and "snow".
the store itself is tiny and white, with walls of shelves-- on the right side are the blended perfumes and on the left are the accords -- single note fragrances that are nothing if not shockingly realistic (think roast beef, chewing gum, doll head, rubber cement). serious willy-wonka-ness happening on the left side, btw.

i only had a little time to spend in the store (i had to meet mr. time warner cable !!!), but it would be easy to spend hours there.... i mean there are 4 different types of tobacco accord alone, but i did manage to leave with Winter 1972, one of the blended perfumes. probably not going to be the one, but it smells really nice and clean and snow-y. ok, that's it. tomorrow's adventure will be the laundromat, but i doubt i'll be blogging about that one.
